Born and raised in San Francisco, jazz saxophonist Bryan Girard majored
in music at SF State University and has performed in and around the bay
area for over three decades. He has also worked in Canada, Europe and
Japan as well as participated in various tours throughout the United
States.
Over the years, Bryan has performed with many local and national stars—pianists
Nina sheldon, Richie Crabtree of the Mastersounds and the late Oakland legend Ed
Kelly, guitarists Calvin Keyes (formerly with Ahmad Jamal), Brian Pardo
(Stan Getz), Barry Finnerty (Miles Davis), bassist Chris Amberger (Art
Blakey), percussionists Danny Spencer (Joe Henderson), David Rokeach
(Ray Charles), Babatunde Lea, as well as prominent vocalists Denise
Perrier, Brenda Boykin, Frankye Kelly, Lavay Smith, Pamela Rose and
Maye Cavallaro.
Bryan has worked in hundreds of venues including such
local spots as Yoshi’s, Rassellas, Bach Dynamite & Dancing Society, The
Shoreline, The Canvas Cafe, the Cliff House, La Pena, Jupiter, The Jazz
House and many more. He has appeared at a number of festivals including
the Burlingame, Vallejo, Benicia, and Fillmore Street Jazz Festivals.
Bryan currently leads several stellar San Francisco-based groups,
including The Soul Jazz Collective which features former Miles Davis
guitarist, Barry Finnerty. He also co-leads Palindrome, the innovative
quintet that showcases the writing of legendary bay area trumpeter
Graham Bruce, and a very exciting Latin Jazz group, Latin Perspective.
